The Surinamese kitchen is very extensice because it is a combination of many international kitchens namely, Hindu (India), Creole (Africa), Javanese (Indonesia) Chinese, Dutch, Jewish, Portuguese and Indian. Because of this mix, the Surinamese kitchen has created many new dishes. Every kitchen started to use each others ingredients and dishes from which new dishes were born: roti, nasi goring, bami, pom, snesi foroe, moksi meti and losi foroe.

The basics of the Surinamese kitchen are mainly rice, tayer and cassava – which are Creole – and roti (Hindu). Many dishes contains chicken, and besides that also much salted meat (such as bakkeljauw) is used. Vegetables that you see often in the Surinamese Kitchen are beans, orka and boulanger. To give dishes an extra spicy taste Madame Jeanette peppers are often used.
